Mrs. Orsi spoke to the children about the Easter holiday and Easter customs, and the children listened with great interest. After the short presentation, the girls painted eggs in the traditional way, having prepared the eggs together beforehand (boiling and blowing them out). They applied the traditional Somogy patterns to the prepared eggs using wax, but they were also free to draw their own designs. This technique is called “gicázás.” Afterward, they painted the eggs red, blue, and green. Considering it was the girls’ first time decorating eggs this way, they were very skilled and enthusiastic. In keeping with certain traditions, the boys also prepared sprinkling rhymes and cologne, so they sprinkled every woman and girl, receiving decorated eggs in return. While the girls painted eggs, the boys worked on their projects; as part of the “Responsibility for Nature” project, we made bird feeders. For now, we’ve only made a simple version using a plastic bottle, but we plan to build more attractive— though slightly more complicated — wooden bird feeders and birdhouses in the future. We’ve placed the finished bird feeders in the courtyard of the Kaposvár community center.

The Kaposvár Group 3 wishes everyone a Happy Easter!

Photos in the Gallery.

Máté Varga, mentor, Kaposvár Group 3

On April 3, 2026, Group 3 in Kaposvár welcomed local history researcher Mrs. Orsi Pálmai.
