”On 11 March 2023, the Szentes 2 group took part in a cultural day. After the mentoring hour, we headed to the venue of our activities. First, we went to the Szentes City Library. The library, one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, offers more than 110,000 books, numerous periodicals and audiovisual documents, as well as regular art and cultural exhibitions and performances. The tour of the library gave us an insight into the history of the current library building, which has been operating since 1998 in the renovated former synagogue. On the ground floor there is fiction available for borrowing, on the first floor there is specialised literature, while on the second floor there is compulsory reading for secondary school, local history and history collections, a collection of maps and books in foreign languages. A library of reference books (library and literature, reading, sociology, didactics), board games and audio books are available to the public. After the library, an exhibition of paintings by M\u00e1rta Bolla “The Scent of a Hungarian Woman” in the Tok\u00e1csli Gallery brought colour to the grey weekend day. We were in a fairytale atmosphere, admiring vibrantly coloured female portraits and still lifes. We closed the cultural day with a visit to the Koszta J\u00f3zsef Museum, where we watched a short film from the collection of statues and reliefs of S\u00e1ndor Pet\u0151fi in Csongr\u00e1d-Csan\u00e1d county, on the occasion of our 15th March celebrations.”<\/p>\n

“The tour of the library gave us an insight into the origins of the library and its works of fiction. The building was a Jewish temple with 4 original walls, all the other parts were rebuilt. We learned about the library’s functions, saw the Torah scroll, learned about its past. Inside the library we visited the icon exhibition made by the drawing teacher of the De\u00e1k Ferenc Primary School in Szentes.”<\/p>\n

“The paintings in the exhibition at the Tok\u00e1csli Gallery were brightly coloured and elaborate, completely enchanting us with their vivid colours. The paintings mostly depicted female figures, landscapes and still life. We learnt that the painter M\u00e1rta Bolla often imagines things… she listens to music….. and by her hands, wonderful works are born.”<\/p>\n

“The Koszta J\u00f3zsef Museum is the last stop on our cultural journey. The museum staff gave us a lecture on S\u00e1ndor Pet\u0151fi, which was very multifaceted. It was not only about his poems, but also about his statues in the county. Two of his poems were set to music. At the end of our visit, we were given some information about the weapons used in the 1848-49 Revolution and War of Independence, which we were able to hold in our hands, a great experience.”<\/p>\n
