Today I participated in the physics open day at the ELI laser centre in Szeged with my group mate M\u00e1rk\u00f3 Laurinyecz. The whole programme was based around physics and most of the natural sciences. The opening of the day was immediately special, as the Nobel Prize winner Ferenc Krausz himself logged in from his laboratory in Munich. For just under an hour, the professor gave an informal talk that pointed straight into the future from the very beginning of his research. The audience was so impressed that many questions were asked and answered respectfully. The opening was followed by two lectures by Ferenc Krausz’s fellow researchers. These presented the work and research of the laser centre. We learned about the history of lasers and how they are used in modern research. After the presentations, visitors were free to visit the different stands. Behind each stand, a research team from the University of Szeged was waiting to give an interactive demonstration. The programmes were very colourful. Everything from virtual reality to modern astronomical telescopes was on display. After seeing and trying everything, we felt we had learned a lot today.
