Exhibition Opening: 11th Jászfényszaru Artists’ Retreat
We opened the exhibition of the 11th Jászfényszaru Artists’ Retreat at the Déryné 6 Gallery of the Csányi Foundation’s Community House in Jászberény. Dr. Miklós Radoszáv, the operational director of the Csányi Foundation, welcomed our guests and the exhibiting artists, who are displaying their works together for the third time in our gallery. The professional opening speech was delivered by Zopán Nagy, a poet and photographer whose photos are also featured in the exhibition. The opening speech was very special, creating a dreamlike, slightly mystical atmosphere through surreal and poetic phrasing. The artistic welcome captured the free and experimental spirit of the creative camp.
At the end of the opening, we heard a beautiful performance of Chopin’s Waltz in E major by Adél Szilágyi, a talented pianist student of the Foundation.
„Jászfényszaru, Jászberééény! The XIth (The Eleven/Alive) unfolding. The art conservatory, protecting even from preschoolers (though not protecting the creators from themselves), functioned as a special venue. An artists’ retreat in the shadow of the cemetery, in a zone beside tranquil netherworlds. In the communal, intellectual sphere, where:
They came, they took shape from ideas, plans, and imaginings: they were born, then continuously refined, or became food for further thought—these individual works. Thus, graphics, linocuts, paintings, photo-experiments, stone and marble plaques, wax installations, and creations vibrating with profane-sacral emotions were brought to life…
Moreover! From collective contemplations, from thoughts filtered and flowing from the corners of the mind’s chambers, came surreal, playful-grotesque scenes; intertwined, filmed stories (fragments of the self) of internal and external performance-details were fixed onto raw material… They came: occasionally, the vibrations of shadows disguised as translucent mirage-dementors, faintly disturbing the siesta-time and the lucid-dream meditation, and the buzzing-fizzing whispering breaths of bushes transformed into mixed (animal-nonhuman) beings…” – Excerpt from the opening speech by Zopán Nagy
