Waking Nature

Waking Nature

The sunny, warming spring weather gave us the opportunity to hold our first field session of the Nature Explorer Club in Szeged.

Within the framework of the Saturday session (07.03.2026), we traveled to the buffalo reserve in Mórahalom, where we observed and photographed migratory bird species. The nightly cold temperatures still hold back the birds from searching for food, but even so, we managed to observe flocks of common shelducks and northern shovelers on the lake, albeit from a distance.

After this, we got back into the car and introduced our graduate student Szabolcs Turuczki’s experimental farm to the younger nature explorers, who were visiting for the first time. Last year, Szabi expanded his African catfish farm with a water-purifying plant-growing aquaponics system, which he showed us for the first time now.

The time spent together in nature was a useful relaxation for everyone after the winter sessions spent indoors.
