Life in the Future’s city

During the autumn break, we held our second project day at the Szeged Community House, where we continued the Maker’s Redbox sessions and the Nature Explorer Club activities, all centered around the theme of superheroes.

As the next step in our The Maker’s Red Box: Superheroes project, we continued shaping our superhero characters. After a short overview, we learned new information about onomatopoeic words and sound sequences, then explored various comic-style fonts found in speech bubbles. This was followed by a typographic puzzle game. We also formulated the origin stories of our superheroes, which we will continue refining later.

We gained deeper insight into the world of symbols, logos, and pictograms. In addition, as part of 2D design, we solved various mathematical and logical problems using our design software. We brainstormed a lot, developed our language skills and creativity, and prepared ourselves for the object-creation sessions coming next.

As part of our nature explorer session, based on our English curriculum, Ádám Papdi gave an interactive presentation on everyday life in the Dark Ages, followed by a talk on vampire legends and their connections to bats. He then held an exciting session on protecting native bat species. Zsanett Szirovicza launched a debate forum with the younger students of Szeged Group 1 about the issue of modern humanity’s food waste.

In the other part of the Nature Explorer Club, we took a look into the science of aquaristics, which will continue with student research work in upcoming sessions. In the introductory session, we reviewed the basics and toolset of aquaristics, learning about the principles of aeration, filtration, and heating systems. Our plans for the next activities include learning about the breeding of guppies and mollies.

The more enthusiastic young naturalists had the opportunity the next day to test their fish knowledge at Maty-ér during a team-building fishing activity.
