Our First Project Day in Szeged

Our First Project Day in Szeged

On October 11, 2025, we held our first project day at the Szeged Community House as part of the “Life in the City of the Future” project. Throughout the full-day activities, all three groups participated in subproject-themed sessions. In the morning, Group 1 from Szeged worked with elementary school students on a drama session built around the theme of superheroes. In the afternoon, the activities expanded to include high school students and featured career-orientation drama, the Maker’s Red Box workshop, and a nature explorer session.

During the morning drama session, we explored heroes and hero types. We examined their origin stories, characteristic traits, helpers, and special tools. We recalled our favorite childhood storybook heroes and, finally, in small groups, created our own avatars and formulated a message for the future.

At the first project session of the year, the group members participated in an unprecedented afternoon of self-development and team-building activities. Since most of the group is only two years away from completing their secondary studies, they will take part in career-orientation programs next year that help lay the foundation for their future. Each development session, through playful exercises, also has mental health, life skills, and team-building benefits. Based on personal and group experiences, it can be said that the team hasn’t had this much fun in a long time, and most members are looking forward to the next session.

This year, we continued our Maker’s Red Box project sessions. We explored the superhero theme. Under the guidance of mentor Izabella Patyi, we began new exercises to develop language communication skills, emphasizing creativity, artistic ability, and both verbal and written expression. We also learned the basics of 2D vector graphic design and started shaping our own superhero.

This year’s first nature explorer session was conducted under the theme of our joint project, “Life in the City of the Future.” Our monthly topic, aligned with English classes, was Giants and Dwarfs in Nature. With the help of junior mentors, the children learned about the planet’s smallest and largest living beings (Mikics Péter), explored the world of tissues (Molnár Emma), discovered the history of the microscope (Pajor-Vincze Anna), and studied the basics of Mendelian genetics (Rutai Edmond).

After the interactive session, we continued our nature exploration with practical activities. We made peelings from the outer leaves of a purple onion and created scrapings from the underside of a houseplant leaf (Epipremnum aureum), searching for stomata. Photographs of the prepared samples were taken for use in future sessions.
