Our February Project Day in Szeged

Our February Project Day in Szeged

Our Saturday project day (21.02.2026) continued with Maker’s Red Box and nature explorer sessions at the Community House of Szeged.

During our nature explorer session, Szandra Vass held an interactive presentation on the topic of “The History of Animal Keeping and the Extinction of Species,” in which she presented the wildlife conservation efforts of contemporary zoos, as well as the history of zoos and botanical houses following geographical expeditions.

After Szandi’s session, in accordance with our research plans, we conducted chemical water testing of our breeding aquariums, covering the thorough examination of every single chemical parameter, which we will investigate in even greater detail next time. By monitoring the waters, we are interested in whether the keeping conditions are suitable for the fish we are raising, and whether the set-up aquariums are appropriate for future breeding procedures. The future challenge will be to precisely set and maintain the water parameters belonging to ideal living conditions, which we can examine through continuous monitoring. In the practical part of the lesson, we measured temperatures, pH values, conductivity, nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia concentrations, as well as water hardness data in three water bodies (fry, broodstock aquarium, guppy breeding aquarium). In the next session, we will analyze the data with the help of artificial intelligence, highlight critical parameters, and try to find eco-friendly solutions to optimize the values.

Within the framework of our Superheroes project of the Maker’s Red Box skill-development program package, we continued our previous theme. We began creating our storyboxes, which we are supplementing with microelectronics in addition to using the Inkscape program. With this, everyone presents a defining scene from the origin story written during previous occasions. This process spans several sessions and will finally be presented at our Life Path Festival in April.

During the situational exercise named “Mission Possible,” we placed the superheroes into a specific situation that they had to solve. A situation that forces them into an action; while their personalities develop and their characters are shaped. One of our starting examples was: “Stronger children want to hurt your classmate. What do you do?” In this situation, everyone could let their imagination run free, and numerous interesting stories were born regarding the solutions of our everyday heroes.

By the end of the day, the frames of our storyboxes were completed, and during their internal design, we prepared the integration of electronics for our next session. We are still optimizing the 3D-printed closing elements, and everyone is shaping them according to their own taste.

We are already looking forward to our next session: the soldering part and the final formation of the multi-layered, laser-cut creations based on hand drawings, which present a characteristic moment of our heroes.
