Our weekend in Pécs: New Teacher, New Skills, Great Enthusiasm
Development classes continued this weekend for the Pécs Group 2, where students once again participated in meaningful and experience-rich sessions. On Friday, the focus was on language development, which also held a special occasion for the mentees.
This was the first time the students met their new German teacher, Dr. Clara Epping-Gyarmati, who moved from Germany to Pécs. The educator approached the students with extraordinary empathy and directness, quickly finding common ground with them. Her motivating presence noticeably increased the students’ interest and activity from the very first session.
Work continued on Saturday in split groups: the focus shifted to developing the children’s Hungarian language and IT skills. The Hungarian language development was conducted by my mentor colleague, Andrea Bálint-Orsós. Several mentees indicated that although they had not learned PowerPoint creation in lower primary school, it is treated as a basic expectation in the higher grades. For this reason, the current practical session proved to be particularly useful.
It was a special pleasure that our junior mentors also took an active role in conducting the IT tasks. András Dömölki, Rajmund Pál, and Richárd Nagy had been preparing for the class together days in advance, during which they assisted the younger students with great care.
The day concluded with an exciting competition: every participant had to create a presentation about their time and experiences spent at the Foundation. The challenge was to create the most complex and creative PowerPoint possible. The winner’s reward was not forgotten either — our junior mentors even offered a bar of chocolate for the best one.
Based on the feedback, it is clear: our children are already looking forward to the continuation of the IT sessions with the greatest excitement.
