Karácsonyi simul
On December 28, we had the opportunity to be part of a historic and truly grand event at the Lurdy House in Budapest. Together with nearly 150 chess players, we sat down at the boards to measure our skills against the chess pride of the Jászság Group 2 and the Foundation: the Karácsonyi siblings (IM Gellért, WFM Kata, Luca, and Bánk).
This event earned its place in history not because of the number of participants—although 150 players is impressive in itself—but because of its unique format. A world-record-setting, genre-creating Hungarian innovation was born: instead of playing individually, the siblings competed as a team, taking turns against us in a “relay simultaneous” exhibition.
As expected, the masters prevailed at the end of the marathon battle against the majority of the participants, but this in no way diminished the value of the experience. The event was marked by an excellent atmosphere and true sportsmanship. Thank you for the opportunity!
