Project day in Szeged
On March 14, we held another project day at the Szeged Community House, which we were finally able to hold in beautiful spring weather.
Within the framework of the Superheroes project, the Maker’s Red Box and Nature Explorer Club sessions continued once again. In the first part of the weekend’s Nature Explorer Club session, Anna Pajor-Vincze and Emma Molnár held an interactive session on chemistry and history topics regarding biogenic elements, as well as the development of agriculture, the use of chemicals, and 21st-century agricultural challenges and green solutions. In the second half of the class, we continued the practical part of our fish research project, which we and a few of our peers work on diligently during the week as well. We successfully concluded our first breeding experiment; separated Molly fry were born in our spawning tank exactly during the session, which we transferred to the fry-rearing jar. Our arduous Guppy breeding also yielded results. After two months of water parameter testing and stabilization, the aquarium is full of fry again, and the fry hatched in December have already been placed into our 200-liter mother-fish tank.
Our next experiment will be the breeding of leopard danios, for which we requested the help of Gemini AI and planned the breeding together. For this, we separated the egg-bearing fish from the males in the mother-fish tanks, and we are conditioning them for a week. During this time, we will prepare all the technical parts of the planned spawning tank (spawning grate, measuring and optimizing water parameters). We are embarking on this new experiment with enthusiasm, trusting that after the mollies and guppies, we will also succeed in breeding and raising this species of fish.

Within the framework of The Maker’s Red Box Superheroes project, we have reached a milestone. We revisited our superheroes; everyone presented their hero’s superpowers and origin story to the group. We reworked the role-playing exercises from our past sessions and placed our characters into a new context. We also practiced different steps of paper cutting, creating a cityscape in our craft section. Meanwhile, the older students continued laser cutting more complex, multi-layered shapes and designing new ones.
Finally, we prepared the tools for our soldering, with the help of which everyone can finish their storybox at our next session, using their own self-made circuits, LED lighting, and laser-cut shapes based on their unique designs.
