Parents’ Academy in the Pécs Group 3
On Friday, January 16, the Pécs Group 3 spent a special and inspiring afternoon together as part of the Parents’ Academy. The session was led by the staff of the OTP Fáy Foundation, who introduced us to the world of effective presentation techniques through an interactive workshop. Following a brief introduction, the program immediately started with a self-awareness task. We had to choose a human trait related to public speaking that is particularly characteristic of us, and then share with the others why we feel it is a strength or an area for development when we have to speak in front of an audience. We discussed, among other things, body language, volume, speaking too fast, eye contact, focus, and many other factors crucial during a presentation. During the joint discussion, we also received practical advice on how these skills can be developed. In the following part, a truly playful task took place: the “and then” dialogue exercise. Working in pairs, we practiced conversation and storytelling while letting our imaginations run wild. Creative, humorous stories were born that sometimes strayed quite far from reality – but good spirits were guaranteed. After this, we watched two videos demonstrating different presentation styles, which we analyzed in small groups. We evaluated the speakers based on the criteria discussed in the first task: what is worth paying attention to during a presentation, what might trigger negative reactions in the audience, and what tools can be used to capture and then maintain attention.
Overall, we spent a meaningful, educational, and pleasant late afternoon and evening together, from which every participant could take home useful thoughts and new perspectives.
Thank you for the experience! Pécs Group 3
