Workshop at Microsoft

Workshop at Microsoft

Microsoft and the Csányi Foundation organised a project called “surf the web responsibly” for elementary and high school students.

The project works could be submitted as an essay or a video. Successful entrants could participate on an educational day on 8th January in Budapest in the Microsoft Graphisoft Park. There were programmes tailored to the children’s age. Elementary school students could learn about safe internet use and games like KODU and Minecraft. High school and university students learnt about online CV making. Naturally everyone could experience the new smart products from Microsoft. We are grateful to Schubauer Krisztinán and Trefán Gábor for this wonderful day.

How we saw it…

“My favourite part was when we talked about the new features of Windows 10, and could try out the new win 10 smartphones. There was a quiz too and we could win portable batteries or headphones. At the end of the day we got a t-shirt with Microsoft logo. It was a great day.”

“We stopped in front of beautiful buildings. The environment was really nice and entering the building we wondered how modern and nice it is. I would like to work at a place like this when I’ll grow up. They showed us the dangers of using a computer and what to take care during the use of clever mobiles and tablets. After the end of this, we had lunch break. In the afternoon the presenter asked me to help, he wanted to show how to use Windhos hello, more precisely what the Iris setting means. We got pizza for lunch. For me it was a perfect day.”

“We were really excited, curious and were looking forward to seeing what would happen to us today. We had interesting topics on the way to Budapest and back, too. During the long journey we started to talk about whether there are “digital marksmen” and “unlettered” people or not, is it necessary to have digital literacy or illiteracy or not. What should the kid whose parents cannot afford or simply does not want to buy a clever mobile do? How do they feel in a world where it is essential to have one… So not only the program was great, but we feel great during the journey thanks to our conversations.”

“We got off the bus and entering the building we were warmly welcomed. We were accompanied to a room on the second floor, where the other groups had arrived before. I really liked this room because of the walls and the furniture. The walls were covered with graffiti and the furniture mostly consisted of toys. It looked like a gaming room, but not an average one. First, we could see a presentation and could hear about the gadgets which are planned to be produced. We stared in amazement and some of us had inquiring questions. Later we could see another presentation which was about the advantages, disadvantages and dangers of the Internet and electronic gadgets. After lunch we could work on a game-planning software. We could set our creativity free and create our own small worlds. At the end of the day we got a Microsoft T-shirt as a surprise, it was the close of the day. For me it was an unforgettable experience and I loved everything I saw. I was really happy to be there and would like to say thank for the opportunity.  I encourage everybody to write a project next time! You cannot give it a miss!”

“Our visit at the Microsoft was not only special, but exciting and thought-provoking, too. We were more and more amazed. Time was running, we would have been happy to stay there a bit longer. For me the best program was the premiere of the newest products and the program in the afternoon, when with my group-mate we could create “our” world. We were laughing a lot during the works. We were wondering about how the digital future will have been by the time we’ll grow up. We are standing ahead an exciting period. I am thankful that I could be there, thank you for the opportunity!
