In-house soccer and Chess championships in Mohács

“Mohács hosted the first round of the Foundation Football Championship for the school year 2023/24 on 21 October. All Community Houses were represented and more than 70 footballers participated in the matches. After the distribution of shoes and jerseys, Nadin Kuckó, President of the Children’s Parliament and Uncle Miklós opened the event. Five teams competed in the Little League and four in the Big League. The matches were fair throughout and a good number of goals were scored. The matches were officiated by our partner from Chania, Ádám Papdi, who blew the whistle as a qualified referee.

  • Dear Adam! When did you finish the refereeing course?
  • I started the course in Szeged at the beginning of September 2022 and I passed the exam on 28 October 2022.
  • What motivated you to become a referee?
  • I’ve been attracted to the world of football since I was a child, but I never really developed as a player. My dad mentioned the possibility and I decided to start.
  • In what division do you officiate or help (mark) matches?
  • I usually officiate matches in junior teams. So far the biggest age group I’ve officiated in is U16. As an assistant (scorekeeper) I also help in adult age groups. So far the biggest division I have been in is Varsity 3.
  • How did you feel as a referee in the foundation matches?
  • I felt like I was refereeing “official” games at the foundation games. The players spoke to me with respect, looked up to me and accepted my decisions. The matches were played in a fair and sportsmanlike manner.

Thank you very much and congratulations!

“The first Children’s Parliament meeting of the school year took place in Mohács at the same time as the Football Championship. All Community Houses were represented, so the number of participants was high. The agenda included the presentation of the revised rules of the Foundation and the approval by the Children’s Parliament. In addition, the adoption of next year’s draft budget and the election of a new president, which is still on the agenda for this school year. The tasks of the Spring Festival of Life Paths, the small-mentor commitments and the sports camp were discussed. Finally, new ideas put forward by the members were put on the agenda.” Nadin Kuckó, Nagybajom Group 1

“On 21 October, after one year, the representatives of the Community Houses, parents, children, mentors, met again at the annual meeting of the Stakeholder Forum in Mohács. The meeting focused on two agenda items: the first one, the awareness of the Foundation in the municipality, many of the parents present spoke about it, sometimes there were conflicting opinions, some of them voted for the director, the class teacher, the prospective parents to get to know the Foundation’s program, goals, programs in schools in detail before the actual selection, emphasizing the importance of cooperation. Others advocated for a greater presence on social platforms, e.g. sharing events about Foundation programmes as parents. Others saw the solution in making community centres more open, e.g. by organising exhibitions or other activities to bring the Foundation closer to the members of the community. The issue of cooperation and motivation, the importance of the role of the parent and the child, and last but not least the role of the mentor, could not be left out of this year’s meeting. The second was the discussion of the Foundation’s Rules of Living Together and the Rules of Procedure, which were sent to the participants in advance so that they could discuss them after reviewing them. The document was adopted with the minor changes made. See you in 1 year in the same place in Mohács!” Luca Borsy mentor
