Cultural Heritage Days in Szeged

Cultural Heritage Days in Szeged

On the 19th September 2021 the Groups 2 and 3 of Szeged visited the Folk Museum in Alsóváros, and the Votive Church of Szeged. As the national ceremony, the Cultural Heritage Days, was held on the weekend, the two groups participated in these programs. In the folk museum we learned a lot of interesting things about one of the oldest quarters of Szeged, Alsóváros, as well as about the famous Szeged paprika, and the slippers.

In the Votive Church (aka Szeged Dome) we got to know the history of the former Diocese of Csanád and how it moved its center to Szeged and became the Diocese of Szeged-Csanád. On the exhibition we could also see how the Church was built and what precious artifacts can be found there. At the end of the day, we climbed up to the lookout in one of the towers of the church to see the panoramic view of Szeged.

“We met the other group, the Group 2 of Szeged, in the Community House at 10 o’clock in the morning. As our first program for the day, we visited the Folk Museum in Alsóváros, where we learned a lot about the history and the culture of this part of the city. Having had a lunch together, we spent a couple of hours in the exhibition rooms of the Votive Church. As a part of the program, we could go up to the lookout on the top of the tower of the church. There we could see the beautiful panoramic view of the city.”
