The Second Nature Photography Workshop

The Second Nature Photography Workshop

“Our regular Art Camp, which has been held for years, welcomes children interested in photography to our Nature Photography section. However, before registering for the camp, children will also participate in a workshop to get them in the mood for the summer camp’s creative activities. The second such workshop of this school year took place on 12-13 May 2023.
In addition to the photographers from Szeged, children from the Community House of Nagybajom also attended the workshop. Fortunately, two new members joined the group of photography lovers, because from this year on, a student from Nagybajom and a student from Szeged would like to join our Nature Photography team and apply for the camp session.

With beginners in mind, we started the workshop with a theoretical primer, during which the children learned more about the manual settings of the camera, the characteristics of each lens, the basics of composing and retouching, as well as some practical tips. After a short but informative interactive session, the team retired to the field the next day, well rested and re-energised.

After breakfast we set off for our first destination, the Nagyszéksós lake near Mórahalom. Here, from the lookout overlooking the lake, we were able to observe and catch sight of several species of waterfowl and shore birds, such as gulls. And at the lookout on the other side of the lake, we also managed to capture a number of plant species in addition to the animals.

Moving on, we passed through the Mártély Landscape Conservation Area, a very nice photographic spot for us. The rich bird and plant life of the marsh makes it an exciting location, which our team has been visiting for years, even outside the workshops.

Our last stop was the Tápai meadow, where we first visited a wet, marshy area in search of interesting and memorable plant and animal species. We then visited Szabi’s farm, where Szabi showed us parts of his research project: his unfed system full of carp, and a small fed pond with goldfish.

We ended the day at the Fehérto Fisherman’s Tavern. We enjoyed a delicious dinner together in the authentic Hungarian tavern, bringing the day to a close.” Anna Benczúr, Szeged Group 2

“Nature photography in Szeged

Friday I came home from school at noon. Soon my mentor Roland picked me up and we went to pick up the boys. We picked up Kristóf Tóth and Kristóf Kámán and headed for Szeged. After introductions we went down to the lake. When we had seen everything, we went to the Halászcsárda for dinner. After dinner we had a theoretical lesson on photography. On Saturday after breakfast we continued our work in the field. We saw a lot of interesting birds, a big novelty for me was the stork flock. It was difficult to choose what to photograph among the many wonderful sights on the poppy field. After lunch, we caught the interesting sights on the banks of the Tisza. We went to Szabi’s house to see the fish, which she cares for with all her heart and soul.

The evening came quickly, and we had a long journey ahead of us. These one and a half days went by very fast. I’m glad I could come here, and it was a special pleasure for me to get a camera from my mentor Roland, so I could show my work on my own.” Evelin Buzsáki, Nagybajom Group 3
