Giving is invaluable

Giving is invaluable

We have heard a lot about volunteer work. Also we have always done our best to make friends with the volunteer workers who came to work for the Foundation.

Eventually we decided that we could try volunteer work too. We got in contact with the primary school of the most underprivileged village of Somogy County. We did it to show them why it is worth studying. Even though we know and feel it day by day that the tasks are growing and ever harder and sometimes we do not feel like doing them. We travelled to Pálmajor (20. October) to play and to tell stories too. We had made a detailed plan for the activities, but we were so surprised to see the children’s eyes shining with interest that we almost forgot to give them the presents in the heat of the games. After the introductory games we talked about our families, schools and hobbies. Áron played the guitar and then our hosts showed us how nicely they could sing. We enjoyed singing together just as well as drawing pictures together and we also drew our own portraits with our eyes closed. We had a good laugh together.

Time flew fast and we still had so much more to learn about each other, that we agreed that we would meet again soon. Leaving was not easy as they always found another little miracle to show us, from the chestnut toys that they had made (and which we had last made at their age) to the puppets portraying their favourite animals and  themselves. We gave them a farewell gift and our hosts  gave us a pretty bouquet of autumn leaves prepared by themselves. We loved it and we were surprised by this particularly affectionate reception.

Giving is really great and it was fun receiving too. We are looking forward to the continuation.

In the gallery you can find the pictures of the afternoon that we spent together with the children of Pálmajor.
