H.L Chathura from Sri Lanka

I am Chathura from Sri Lanka, 25 years old and a Post graduate student of Human Rights at University of Colombo. I was born in Sri Lanka, Galle. But grew up in the Maldives. I lived there for about 11 years and came back to my country after having finished my London O/Ls. I am a great fan of football and I used to play football tournaments in my school (Majeediyya) in the Maldives, and I did my A/Ls in Sri Lanka.

I love to travel and go for camping in beautiful locations which actually made me a nature lover, a great admirer of antiques and a protector of environment. I always think positive and try to achieve what makes me and others happy in every possible way.

I like to learn about different cultures and make good friends, and my field is human rights and international relations which is the actual reason for me to be interested in AIESEC as I can learn and share my knowledge of travelling experiences and to bring out the beauty of my country and the rich proud history we have.

Cross-cultural environments can have positive results to on the society and for the development of peace in the world and I choose Hungary as the country itself sounds exciting and it is the central Europe and the culture of Hungary is not much known in Asia, so my aim is to give my knowledge to the students of Hungary and learn the Hungarian culture and share it in Sri Lanka. As I am a person who has the skill to connect to people, I believe my task will be easier.

FAREWELL – H.L. CHATHURA CHAMUPATHI

The time has come for me to express what my heart and mind wants to say and I would like to say it using these words – I found a new Family and that is The Csányi Foundation of Hungary.

I am so happy and lucky to be a part of it. Each and everything is arranged and organized so well, there were no loose ends at all and I would like to highlight each and every mentor of the Foundation and their hard work. I give full credit to the director of the Csányi Foundation for the selection of these energetic kind hearted mentors.  No matter how many cities I went to do my English and cultural lessons after 2 weeks of stay at each place, the bond between me and each branch of the Foundation (Jászberény, Nagybajom and Kaposvár) remains as one and I would like to highlight that even after my change of each city at the end of two weeks, the relationship, recognition and our bond remains still the same. I have become a part of them and they have become a part of me. During my short stay I have visited the Foundation in Pécs and although I have not gone to Mohács I have developed a good relationship with the Foundation’s mentors in there as well. They are all great.

I would like to say that this country is so amazing and this is one of the very best places to visit if you are a person who loves history, nature and art. In my observation I have found that the Hungarian citizens are so polite, kind and well disciplined. I have been to many cities apart from the Foundation branches, I would like to say all the places are so wonderful and my first place of visit were the churches.

Six weeks went so fast but it taught me many things such as cooking, adopting to new changes and especially teaching, all these time it had been a hidden talent within me. I would like to thank AIESEC for their contribution as well. I have met many great people in different fields and it was a great pleasure meeting them all and I am looking forward in meeting them again. Would like to thank my educator about Hungary – Judit (a great person of the Foundation) and a very close person to me.

Life in here is different and I became a part of it and enjoyed every single second. I got the chance to do many activities during my free time such as visiting new cities, fishing – with mentors and great close friends & brothers Roland and András. Playing football and doing exercises – with the mentor and friend Tamás. Cooking with mentor Barnabás, who was a great friend. Joining in cultural functions with the Hungarians and with my close mentor Sasa – she was a mother to me and I enjoyed speaking in English with mentors Szilvi, Lilla and Judit – it was so much fun. I never felt I was miles and miles away from my country. So I would recommend any volunteer to come to Hungary to experience life in here – BUT make sure you are a very active person. During my stay in Sri Lanka I would educate our citizens about this amazing country.

In my final writing I would like to thank the Csányi Foundation (Every single member from very top to very bottom) for the humanitarian efforts that they take as an organization to help the innocent children for their better future and for a better world. I am so proud and lucky to be a part of it and I would always love and be honored to be a member of the foundation to join hands and work together to serve innocent children for their betterment and to be a part of the fight/struggle in making a brighter future for all.

It is never a good bye as I would return if I ever get a chance – whenever I get a chance, as I am going back to Sri Lanka leaving a part of me in Hungary and the part I am leaving in here is the part I have here in the Csányi Foundation.
