Behind Bars

Behind Bars

On Friday 13th February the P1 and P2 groups could spend 2 hours in the penitentiary institution of Baranya County.

Firstly, we viewed the juvenile section, and saw the everyday lives of the inmates. We were also informed of their free time activities, the strict rules they must follow and punishments, should they misbehave. We could experience one of the punishments ourselves. Their successful integration back to society is helped by a parole officer. The guards working there are under a lot of stress. Secondly, we could visit the adult section, which was as depressing as the previous one with the air choking us. Finally, we were glad to get out of this place.

I my opinion, it was really useful to see the prison from the inside. We saw many bad examples why we shouldn’t end up there. I do not wish to be back… Szabó Gábor

The guard showing us around told us many horrible stories about the inmates. I was shocked to see how unhygienic the cells were. I don’t want to be one of them. Molnár-Székely Emese

As I am quite interested in social issues I particularly enjoyed the visit to the prison. Panka Péter

I found it really great because I expected something completely different. I was shocked. Kiss János

The best was that the guards talked about everything honestly giving many bad examples. We had the opportunity to see inmates, which was enough for a lifetime to keep me out there. Orsós Melinda

The purpose of our visit was to show us the dark side of life, deterring us. It was the first time I had been to such an institution and I was deeply shocked to see inmates living under such deplorable conditions. Kormányos Mónika

What shocked for me were the conditions the inmates were living under and how creative they were. Klepah Máté
