Séf the world

In addition to preparing for the ECDL and language exams, the members of the Jászság Group 4 also participate in a competition of a completely different nature. With a team of four, we entered the “SÉF the World!” organized by the Association of Hungarian Conservationists and the National Association of Caterers and Food Managers. Team members were Maja Sas, Hanna Kovács, Angelika Pege, Lili Burkus. The theme of the contest: sustainable and healthy eating by reducing meat consumption. The purpose of the contest is to introduce and popularize the introduction of the weekly meat-free meal day, since the increase in intensive meat production that meets the needs of today’s consumers is having an increasingly harmful effect on our environment and society. For this very reason, the competition directs attention to the importance of consuming less but better quality meat. In addition to maintaining the principles of healthy eating, a significant step towards sustainability can be taken by introducing one meat-free day per week. The participating teams are led by the star chefs of the competition through an imaginary cooking competition consisting of playful and creative tasks. In the first round, we had to answer theoretical questions, and in the second round, we had to organize an action during which we would introduce as many people as possible to the benefits of a meat-free day once a week. We thought that the best opportunity for this would be a meat-free food tasting day, where we will present the versatile use of vegetables and legumes. For this occasion, the team members made lentil, millet and zucchini meatballs at home, and we also offered Moroccan couscous. These dishes were flavored with herbs picked from her own garden by our volunteer Katalin Fülöpné Paksi. In order to spread the word about the promotion to as many places as possible, we launched a prize draw on one of the social media sites. We invited the winners to the tasting and rewarded them with canvas bags painted by the children. The teams with the best results during the two rounds will enter the “SÉF the World!” big cooking show, the personal final, which will take place at the METRO Gastro Academy in Budaörs in June. During the day, we prepared for the Séf the world competition with a campaign in which we drew attention to the importance of reducing meat consumption. We made different vegetable meatballs, which were a great success, many people were surprised to say how delicious they were. Jászsági Térségi TV also visited us, we showed what we made, what our goal was with this campaign and told why we should reduce meat consumption. We had a raffle to which we invited the winners and gave them the canvas bags we had made ourselves, which made them very happy. Sas Maja Anna Jászság group 4
