Language camp in Tokaj

The first day of the language camp in Tokaj.

On the 29th of June members of group 3 of Nagybajom, Pécs and Szeged met again in Tokaj to start their language camp in English and in German. All the three groups started the day early and travelled a lot to get to the camp in time. When everybody arrived, we occupied our rooms, had dinner and later on we discussed the rules of the camp and the programmes that await us in the coming days.

On the second day of the language camp on the 30th June was the real kick-off of the camp. After the morning P.E. lesson and breakfast the students started the media training lessons with the colleagues of BluePixel Media and language lessons with Bali Zsanett and Jobbágy Kata from the Community House of Pécs. The students liked all the lessons and after lunch we started our thematic programmes, sightseeing in Tokaj and a hiking up to the top of the mount Kopasz. After dinner, the children had time to play game balls, take a stroll along river Tisza or play badminton. During the day Mr Miklós was our guest who helped us to learn more about Tokaj and about its history.

The third day of the language camp (1st July) started with the morning P.E. lesson followed by breakfast. The groups continued their studies at the media classroom and at the language classrooms. At the media lesson the children learned the basics of film making while the other groups took part in funny language competitions. After lunch two groups were formed; one of the groups went canoeing on river Bodrog for 4 kilometres up and 4 kilometres down. The other group walked to the nearby Museum Tokaj to learn more about the wine history of the region. After 5 o’clock snacks, the groups were switched and everybody took part in the other programme. The health walk following lunch was really good as we had some team building games next to the river bank.

The fourth day of the language camp (2nd June) started with the music P.E. lesson. After breakfast the children went to the final media and language lessons of the camp. It was time for lunch, which was the children’s favourite, cheese in coat with French Fries. Early afternoon we walked to the nearby harbour where we embarked a ship, named Triton and boated up on river Tisza to the village of Szabolcs. In the harbour our tour guide waited us who showed us around in the village introducing the most notable historical monuments just like Mudrány cottage, motte and Calvinist church from Árpád era. When we boated back the little mentors organised a sport event for the little Csányi students.

On the fifth day the children started the day with P.E. lesson and it was followed by the breakfast. When the children got ready, we sat on the bus and headed to Széphalom, where we visited the Museum of Hungarian Language. Near the museum is the memorial and tomb of Kazinczy Ferenc, the greatest Hungarian language reformer. After the museum we travelled to Sárospatak to look around in the castle of the Rákóczi family, which is a museum depicting the history of the castle and the nearby area. The next programme was the visit to the Library of Calvinist College, where there are more than 500,000 books. In the Zemplén Adventure Park we slid down on the longest bob cart track of Hungary. When we got back to hostel, after dinner, the little mentors organised an interesting activity show for the young students.

On the last day of our language camp we had the usual start for the day. At 9 o’clock we got on the bus and travelled to Nyíregyháza, where we started the morning with a sightseeing tour in the town centre and we also found a nice cafeteria where we had ice-cream. After lunch we went to the zoo of Nyíregyháza where we spent the rest of the day. We saw seal show, exotic animals, polar bears and many other interesting and rare species. We enjoyed the day very much especially the talent show and disco after dinner.
