The health camp in Jászberény has started!
The health camp in Jászberény started today. The children and their mentors were looking forward to it with great excitement, as the camp leader mentor organised a number of exciting activities. The Lehel Vezér High School hosted the morning of the first day, where the focus was on movement. During the sessions, we developed the children’s motor coordination, cooperation skills and stamina through a variety of playful exercises, skill-building and strengthening exercises. The exercises were led by the camp leader mentor with the help of the small mentors and were enjoyed by the children. The string ball was their favourite as it prepared them for the game of volleyball. To add a little competition to the day, we also organised a flour ball round robin for the children at the end of the morning. The afternoon was spent in the Community Centre, where the legendary “board game” began, which helps to build group cohesion. Despite the difficulty of the game, great solutions were found. And that’s just the beginning! Throughout the week, participants can try a variety of sports, from beaching, bowling, playful quizzes, canoeing, hiking – the programme is so varied that there’s no chance of boredom!

As the week and the end of the camp approached, we still didn’t slow down.
On Wednesday, we focused on our bodies: with the help of speakers from the Budapest Health Centre, we learned about good posture in a playful way, learned about the spine and tried some spinal exercises – not only was it useful, it was fun!
We started Thursday with swimming, of course we did some swimming-related preparatory exercises, correct breathing, floating, gliding, then swimming, which went well enough for everyone, and at the end we couldn’t miss jumping and playing ball.
In the afternoon the long-awaited “dinner” started, where the children were divided into two teams and competed to prepare the best vegetarian dish. While the smell of lasagne wafted through the kitchen, the teams also competed in a city quiz to test their historical knowledge – with lots of laughter, puzzles and “aha!” moments.
We ended the evening early this time, as the next day we set off at dawn for one of the highlights of the week: an 11-kilometre hike to Kékes, starting from Mátrafüred.
Our hiking guide, Uncle Szabolcs, impressed everyone from the very first meters: he told us about the system of hiking signs, when and how to look for them, and also introduced us to the mysteries of the flora. We learned about the special properties of some trees and shrubs, their usefulness, and also about the importance of the natural environment. The tour was not only beautiful, it was a real knowledge and experience bomb!
After a long but fun day, we rewarded ourselves with an afternoon at the beach. The cool water, water rapids, splashing and sunbathing were a real refreshment after the hike – laughter and fun were guaranteed this time too!
We ended the week – and the camp – with the announcement of the previous day’s results. All participants were recognised for their enthusiasm, perseverance and creativity.
We said goodbye full of experiences, new knowledge and friendships… and we can’t wait for the next camp!
