A special day in Bóly

A special day in Bóly

Being interested in agriculture, one of my dreams came true this day.

Being one of the winners of the competition called ’Practice makes perfect’, which was announced by the Csányi Foundation, and supported by the BONAFARM group, I could spend a day (6 February, 2014) at Bóly Ltd.

It was a soft winter morning when I started my journey to Bóly. I travelled by train and I arrived in Pécs at 9 o’clock. József Beck, innovation engineer of Bóly Ltd. had been waiting for me. I was taken to the logistics centre by his car. He has been doing the same job for 33 years. During our journey he told me everything about Bóly Ltd. The company has a huge amount of land (ap. 17.000 hectares) and they mostly grow wheat and corn and a bit of rape and soya. The corn and wheat they produce is used for feed, sowing or just simply sold.  Not only growing plants, the company also takes part in stock-raising: they have 2700 neats in Csípőtelek and will have 80.000 pigs in Ormánypuszta, but that settlement is been being built, yet.

Studying Agribusiness and rural development engineering at Corvinus University of Budapest I am really interested in agriculture. I had lots of questions and of course they were all answered. Mr. Beck was really helpful; he told me everything about Bóly Ltd. The company has a long history; it was established in the 18th century. People living in this area are mostly interested in agricultural.

Some minutes after 10 o’clock we arrived in the logistics centre, where I could meet all the colleges. Attila Bochumer does the same job as Mr. Beck. He took me to Ormánypuszta, where the most modern pig settlement is being built. The works were started in 2012 and will be finished this summer. This 16-hectare-big area gives this settlement home, which will be the biggest one in Europe. They will have 80.000 pigs at the same time. All the works will be done my machines, so only twenty people will work here day-by-day. Thank to Mr. Bochumer I could see every little place of the settlement including the closed ones, too. This project costs 5 billion forints. I feel myself lucky, because I am one of the first ones, who could see this special settlement.

At 11.30 we continued our journey and went to Csípőtelek, where 2700 neats are raised. This settlement is being used for a year and it is the biggest one in Hungary. It is as modern as the one being built in Ormánypuszta.

After noon we went back to the logistics centre. The colleges were really kind to me; they told me interesting stories and showed me pictures of different projects. We had a savory lunch and after saying goodbye to the colleges, Mr. Beck took me back to the railway station of Pécs. Mr. Beck had plenty of things to do, so unfortunately he could not join us in the morning. I thanked him this special opportunity and we said goodbye in the hope that we will meet in the future.

After finishing university I would like to work for Bonafarm group. I will have to study hard in the next 4 years and I would like to say that it was a good idea to study agribusiness. Probably I will be working for Bóly Ltd. in the future. Being interested in agriculture, one of my dreams came true this day. I would like to say thank for the Csányi Foundation and Bonafarm groups of company for this opportunity.
