ErasmusON

In the morning on 26 March I landed in Athens, where I spent wonderful five days with my Hungarian counterparts and five other nationalities. As I arrived on Sunday, I was able to spend the whole day with my host family. After a brief introduction, I gave them my gifts – I arrived in time for breakfast, so they immediately tasted the poppy seed, nut and cocoa scones my baker dad had baked for them. We talked a lot sitting on the terrace, basking in the spring sunshine. Later, after a pleasant walk along the beach, we sat down in a restaurant that not only served delicious traditional Greek dishes, but also offered a beautiful view of the sea and the nearby mountains and islands. On Monday and Tuesday we spent most of the day at school. First, we all gave a prepared presentation on science and scientists – we talked about the St. Agatha Research Centre, among other things – and then we were divided into teams to start making different games, drawing on the information we had heard. By Tuesday afternoon, we had finished our creations and tried out everyone’s games, which we really enjoyed. We then enjoyed a high quality live Greek folk music and dance performance by the school’s students. After they taught us the steps, we joined in the dancing. On Wednesday, we visited one of the Agora, the Acropolis Museum, and then we climbed up to the Parthenon, where we had a view of the whole of Athens. We returned home exhausted, but thanks to a delicious and impressive homemade Greek frappe, I chatted with my host family late into the night about everything from Hungarian and Greek cuisine to Roman Catholic and Orthodox religion to music. As a parting gift, the family surprised me with a bunch of presents. They sent home lots of goodies, and they gave me a necklace to remember them and this amazing trip forever. Karl Mária, Pécs Group 2

In November 2022, selected students from Cserekpa High School were able to travel to Dublin, the capital of Ireland, for two weeks with the help of the Erasmus+ programme. On this study trip, we were able to learn a lot of useful language skills. We were all hosted by student families, which allowed us to socialise with our host families, who were very kind and helpful. Our days were full of content. We spent the morning with Irish students at the Future Learning language school and then spent the afternoon on an excursion. The school covered important topics that will be very useful for our school-leaving exams. I learned a lot of new words and made new friends. In the afternoons, during the activities, we went to different places, for example: we explored Dublin city centre and got a taste of Dublin life. As there are so many interesting and beautiful museums in the city, it was a no-brainer to visit most of them.  We also visited the town of Howt, near Dublin, which had a beautiful coastal walkway that took us through the city. Dublin is also a city of pubs. We went to one of these pubs and tried the traditional Irish dish, the “Irish stew”. It was a very useful and exciting trip from a language point of view. At the end of December 2022, I travelled to Daugavpils, Latvia, with some of my classmates as part of the Erasmus programme. Besides us and the Latvian host students, there were also Spanish and Swedish students present. We spent the mornings in the school and worked on the pre-assigned book Eleanor & Park in drama activities. The afternoon activities during the week included a visit to the Marko Rothko Art Gallery, a bread museum with tasting and a dinner together. Luckily for us, the snow had fallen just before our arrival, so we were greeted by beautiful snowy scenery every day. At the end of March we took over the hosting role and the foreign students, with many familiar faces, spent a few days in Pécs. The programmes were similar, alternating between drama and sightseeing. On the last day, we travelled to Budapest, where we had time for sightseeing and a boat trip. We said a fond farewell before each group headed home. Flibert Virág, Pécs Group 2
