Ending the academic year in Nagybajom

The time has come for us to hold our usual end-of-year celebration and evaluation event at the Community House in Nagybajom. The Saturday began with the usual arrivals, followed by a football match with our volunteer Ádám Balogh and our university students Márton Gelencsér, Benedek Kovács, and Zalán Győző. The one hour of play flew by quickly. Szabolcs Szarka and Evelin Buzsáki carried the winning team on their backs.

Upon returning to the Community House, it was time for the annual awards announcement. Zalán Győző presented the detailed results to the children. The Pineapple Award, established three years ago, is given to the group member who showed the most motivation during the 2024/25 school year. This year, Tímea Bogdán proved to be the most engaged young participant. Afterwards, we enjoyed watermelon, watched a movie, and roasted bacon over a fire.

After having ice cream, we reached a truly special event, but only the most interested participants stayed to witness it. Organized by the Kaposvár local group of the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Society (MME), with the help of Krisztián Geibl and András Szentpáli, we had the chance to ring three young white storks in the nest located in the main square of Nagybajom. We could closely observe the professional bird ringing and listen to a detailed explanation of why this is such an important conservation activity, as it provides vital data on bird migration and lifestyle.”
